Procedure of endoscopy
Endoscopies are minimally invasive and involve the openings as mouth or anus.
Reasons for carrying out an endoscopy:
- Investigation: If a patient is suffering vomiting, pain in abdominal, breathing issues, stomach ulcers, difficulty swallowing, or gastrointestinal bleedingan endoscope can be used to search for an exact cause.
- Confirmation of a diagnosis: An endoscopy can carry out a biopsy to confirm a diagnosis of diseases.
- Treatment: An endoscope can be used to cauterize a bleeding vessel or remove a polyp.
Risk & Side effects of Endoscopy
- feeling bloated for a short time after the endoscopy
- over-sedation
- a numb throat for a few hours
- mild cramping
- infection of the area of investigation
- persistent pain
- tear in the lining of the stomach
- internal bleeding
